Workshop participation
Build the performance practice, for a Village repertoire for a
Ceremonial Occasion.
Drums and percussion instruments will be made available and, delievered to location for the “Village", Hands
on Workshop. Conga drums, Chant Songs, Dance and Percussion”
“The Village” is the people, organized as a group. Setting, by nature of the grouping and by rote learning style
of the activities.
Activities: 1. Introduction to conga drums (sango solo and sing chant to Elegua to Start the Activity).
.
2. Teaching the organology of the conga drums that are used in the Afro-Caribbean
festivals.
3. Teach the purposes of the drum: to play for dancers, to support the ceremony/tradition/celebration
by creating the aptmosphere and laying the foundation for the chant, and dance.
4. Teach basic drum lesson to students (students will play rhythmic patterns on conga drums that
will reinforce technique).
5. Learn to Chant in call and response.
6. Learn basic dance steps and paths to creativity for dancing to the drums.
7. Percussion lessons on accessories, cow bell, shakere, wood block, clave, tamborine, maracas,
double gong bell.
8. Multi tasking pre-performance practice, Village creation by learning and forming a repertoire of
dance, drumming, chants and playing percussion instruments that were learned in the
pre-performance practice.
